The food distribution was limited to an area in central Mozambique, in the district of Marinque. In Thowe there is a school with almost 600 pupils. This school offers education at the level of a primary school in the Netherlands. Because there is often a scarcity of food in these areas, most of the children do not get to school every day. If you are hungry you want to eat first before you think of going to school. And if there is no food then you go looking for it. This often takes so much time that the long walk to the local school just does not happen. Some children can walk for more than an hour in order to get to school. Food ProgramThe charity, Sarinha, along with the school board and the local authorities, has developed a food programme that has two sides to it. Firstly, it provides the essential need of the pupils for food, and secondly, it ensures that the pupils come to school every day. This combination is something that Sarinha found, and still finds, very important. But Sarinha wants more. It is not just children that are educated at this school, but also quite a lot of adults follow the education programme. And, up to now, there has been no provision for the many orphans to go to school; this is also something we are thinking about. We want to do more...Man cannot live by bread alone. More is needed, including water. Because the seasons are very different in Mozambique it means that one season you can be drowning in water while six months later you could be dying because of the drought. Water plays a big part in a person’s life, also in Mozambique. Next to food Sarinha wants to develop in other areas, including providing water, developing agricultural projects and offering training. You can read more about these things on the relevant pages of this website. |
The charity, Sarinha has developed a food aid programme, in cooperation with the school board and the local authorities, which will provide the pupils with the food they so desperately need.
